Game #01

Cultural Bingo

Cultural Bingo is a game where children learn facts about each other through fast-paced interactions, which builds empathy, allows children to hear personal stories, and increases their abilities to appreciate diverse heritage.

Game #02

Mystery Box

Mystery Box is an activity where children in small groups are given the opportunity to explore other cultures through sensory experiences. It demystifies unfamiliar cultural practices, sparks curiosity and delight through unexpected discoveries, and builds confidence in their cultural identities by teaching others about their own cultures.

Game #03

Emotion Mural

This is a game where children can find creative ways of conveying their emotions and build confidence in expressing them. It fosters group cohesion by helping children to recognize shared emotions and to appreciate diverse expressions of feelings.

Who we are & how we got here

Who we are

These games grew out of the Learning Sciences Exchange Fellowship program, which brings together mid-career experts from diverse sectors. Margie Worthington-Smith, Deena Weisberg, Emer Beamer, Bethany Koby, and Mariam El Marakeshy are accomplished in education and child-related fields.

Our process and research

We designed a solution for education by focusing on migrant children. We researched the science of learning, conducted surveys, performed an audit of existing games, and engaged in interviews and field research to create games that foster cultural identity and safe connections in actively respectful learning environments.
